A couple of studies of Lionel from Fur: An Imaginary Portrait of Diane Arbus.

So, apparently Lionel is loosely based on an real person who is said to have been a real gentleman, a very sharp dresser and who spoke some five languages (pretty much what I imagine Lionel Sweeney to be! I want, I NEED his entire wardrobe, by the way).

This is one of those movies that really stick with me and mean something bigger. It’s very intimate and sort of a watch-it-alone movie, because I can relate to Diane’s fascination with the extraordinary more than I can even properly describe. It’s simply fantastic, full of fantasy and chock-full of all those strange and dreamy places, things and people.

I’ve had it in my mind for a while already, but one artist-y dream I have is to gain more confidence and skills in portrait drawing, and draw portraits of people I admire LIVE - face to face! (The list includes… well, Sherlock related people and RDJ to name the obvious. Please, do feel free to contact me. Thank you.) Drawing Lionel made me think about how I’d love to also draw “different” people like him.
